I saw my cousin excited for her arranged marriage. She just finalised
from the photos that came, a handsome & attractive husband. She has not
even met him. Then, what is her parameter? Appearance? Is that all what matters?
Maybe ‘Beauty is just skin-deep.’
I felt disappointed because for me, all that matters is inner beauty. For
me, it is most important to know whether he’s full of lust or love? Cruel or
compassionate? Frustrated or forgiving?
It is great if he’s good-looking too but that’s not my parameter because
this so-called beauty is transient, it withers away in no time.
There is no relation between how you look and how you live your life.
Outer beauty doesn’t give you happiness, it is the trait of inner beauty. I’m
sure we all can think of numerous incidents, when so-called attractive people committed
suicide. They were all miserable. They lacked inner strength.
You can be good-looking yet repulsive because of pride, arrogance and
nature of looking down upon others or you can be non-good looking yet
beautiful. It all depends on whether your constant companions are jealousy and
inferiority-complex OR love and kindness.
Let me ask you something, would you meet someone at that time of the day when you don’t look “good physically” (unkempt hair, oily face and smelly mouth say, when you just woke up)? I suppose not.
But people have seen us filled with hatred, enmity and what not! May be it is normal for us! May be we are used to “inner ugliness”! We never make any effort to remove it, this ugliness doesn't even
bother us.
I want to look physically beautiful but not at the cost of inner beauty.Inner beauty is essential. Everything else is a bonus :)

Its refreshing to read such words when we are living in an appearance obsessed world.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deeksha.
Thank you Rachna :)
DeleteI'm glad you liked it.
Well put. But have you thought on the lines that judging inner beauty can be very subjective and susceptible to bias?
ReplyDeleteYou know everything in life is subjective. To me, if something is adding beauty and happiness to my life, it is inner beauty. That is my judgement :)
DeleteOk :)
DeleteBeautiful ! I agree with Rachna. What a refreshing view. Thanks so much for writing, Deeksha <3
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading Zinnia <3
DeleteAbsolutely bang on..!! Totally agree with ur point of view.. I would just like to add a small thing and that your partner should also be positive and should not hold negativity in each and every situation and stage of life as this will not only affect him/her but will impact other partner too seeing you yelling, sad and tensed..!!!
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree. Inner beauty is much much more important :)
